Not only are zoos the ideal location for a little out-of-school learning, but they are also an amazing opportunity to have lots of fun. There are many reasons to visit your nearest zoo, and whether you’re on vacation or looking at zoos closer to home, you and your family can benefit in a variety of ways.

Ibex

Size: 3 1/2 ft (76-106 cm) tall at the shoulder
Weight: the male weight is around 180 pounds / Females will be around half the size of the males.
Group: herds

Ibex are wild goats found in mountainous regions of Europe, the Middle East, and East Africa. are They are good climbers, and can scramble at high speed over rocky terrain. They have a blackish-colored chest and forelegs, dark leg markings, and a whitish underside. They eat grass, moss, flowers, leaves, and twigs.

Ibis

Type: Bird
Diet: Omnivore
Size (H): 50cm – 65cm (19.7in – 25in)
Wing Span: 80cm – 120cm (32in – 47in)
Weight: 0.3kg – 2kg (0.6lbs – 4lbs)
Life Span: 8 – 15 years

Ibises are wading birds with long, thin legs and long, downward-curving bills. They can vary in size from the tiny 5cm tall dwarf olive ibis to the giant ibis. They are found in the temperate regions of the southern hemisphere. They are well known for their long necks and beaks which help them to get food out of the water.  They hunts fish, insects, small reptiles, frogs, small mammals and crabs.

Iguana 

Type: Reptile
Diet: Omnivore
The average lifespan: 20 years
Size: 6.6 ft (2 m)
Weight: 11 lbs (5 kg)
Top Speed: 35km/h (21mph)
Lifestyle: Solitary

Iguana is a large lizard that lives in forests in Central and South America. It has an arboreal lifestyle. They are fast and agile on land. They tend to enjoy a very herbivorous diet, with ripened fruit being one of the iguana’s favorite foods along with leafy green plants. They can leap from the tree into the water.

Indri

Type: mammal
Diet: Herbivore
Average lifespan: Between 20 and 40 years  
Weight: It weighs 6 – 7.5 kg (13 – 17 lb.).
Size: The indri has a head and body length of more than 60 cm (24″) and a tail length of only about 5 cm (about 2″)
Group: Group (max 6)

The indri is the largest and loudest primate on Madagascar. They can shout and sing songs that are heard more than 2 km away. It is a large lemur. They are covered in soft black and white fur and have a short tail. They have very long limbs to climb trees. It has large bright yellow and greenish eyes. The cute ears make the indri look like a teddy bear. They are found in the lowland jungles and tropical forests.  Their diet consists of leaves, fruit, flowers and seeds. 

Icefish

Type: fish
Diet: omnivore
Average lifespan: The estimated age range is 1–5 years for males and 1–4 years for females
Size: seldom more than 15 centimeters (6 inches) long.
Weight: A maximum weight of 2kg

 Icefish can survive freezing temperatures from -2 to 4 degrees Celsius. They are mostly found around Antarctica. The color of icefish is white, grey, silver, black or red. They absorb their oxygen directly through their skin from the water. They feed on krill, fish, and crabs.
