Gibbon

Diet: Omnivore
Average Lifespan : 35-40 years
Size: Males are about 3 ft (90 cm) long and weigh about 15 pounds (7 kg).
Group: Troop or Band

Gibbons are masters at moving through the trees and have exceptional climbing, swinging, and jumping abilities. There are 18 species of gibbon. They are found in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. They spend most of their life in the trees. They are small, slender, and agile. They have fluffy and dense hair. They forage for food in the forests during the day, eating fruit, leaves, flowers, seeds, tree bark, and tender plant shoots. 

Great White Shark

Type: Fish
Diet: Carnivore
Size: 15 ft (4.6 m) to more than 20 ft (6 m)
Weight: 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg) or more
Group: School or shoal
Protection Status: Endangered

The great white shark is the world’s largest predatory fish. It is found in every ocean. They are torpedo-shaped with powerful tails that can propel them through the water at up to 15 miles per hour. They are grey to greyish-brown on the upper surface and white below. It is found from Ningaloo Marine Park in Western Australia around the southern coast to Moreton Bay in Queensland.  They feed on seals, whales, and dolphins, but also take fish and other sharks. .

Gorilla

Type: Mammal
Diet: Herbivorous
Habitat: Dense forest, rain forest
Average lifespan: 35 years
Size: Standing height, 4 to 6 ft (1.2 to 1.8 m)
Weight: 300 to 485 lbs (135 to 220 kg)
Group: Troop or Band
Protection Status: Endangered

Gorillas are the world’s largest primates. It has a robust build with long, muscular arms, a massive chest, and broad hands and feet. It lives in various dense forests in tropical Africa. They eat roots, shoots, fruit, wild celery, and tree bark and pulp. A gorilla’s life is pretty simple. They spend 30 percent of their waking hours eating, 30 percent traveling and 40 percent resting and sleeping.

Great Blue Heron

Type: Bird
Diet: Carnivore
Average lifespan: 15 years
Size: Body, 3.2 to 4.5 ft (1 to 1.4 m); Wingspan, 5.5 to 6.6 ft (1.7 to 2 m)
Weight: 4.6 to 7.3 lbs (2.1 to 2.5 kg)
Group: Colony

The tall, long-legged great blue heron is the largest of North American herons. They can cruise at some 20 to 30 miles in an hour. They are expert fishers. They prefer tall trees, but sometimes nest in low shrubs. Chicks can survive on their own by about two months of age.  They eat insects and other small creatures.

Giant Panda

Type: Mammal
Diet: Omnivore
Average lifespan: 20 years
Size: 4 to 5 ft (1.2 to 1.5 m)
Weight: 300 lbs (136 kg)
Protection status: Endangered

The giant panda is a black-and-white bear. It has a body typical of bears. It has black fur on ears, eye patches, muzzle, legs, and shoulders. The panda’s thick, wooly coat keeps it warm in the cool forests of its habitat. They have large molar teeth and strong jaw muscles for crushing tough bamboo. They live in broadleaf and coniferous forests with a dense understory of bamboo, at elevations between 5,000 and 10,000 feet.  Its diet has evolved into one of mostly stalks and roots of the slow-growing, nutrient-poor bamboo.
