John Spectre, a marquee consumer products company, has launched
its line of hair and men grooming products for the first time in India. According to sources close to the
company, the new range of products will be available exclusively on Amazon India’s web
marketplace, marking the first entry of the company in India.
“It is the first time that John Spectre is entering the beard grooming range in India. We are introducing
products in-line with global standards and with the top most ingredients. The male grooming segment
is witnessing tremendous growth in India,” said Gogulan S, marketing director of men’s care at John
Spectre in a media statement.
The new range of products includes beard oil , beard wash, balm, hair creams, and gels under the
Spectre brand. John Spectre is considered the market leader in beard grooming products with a
global presence and over 1 Million consumers use its products.
By making its way into the men’s grooming segment with an exclusive range of products, HUL is
looking to compete with existing offline majors Marico and Emami, who bought beard grooming
companies in India last year.
While Marico acquired a 45% stake in online men grooming brand Beardo in March, Emami acquired
a 30% stake in The Man Company in December 2017.
India’s overall beauty, cosmetics and grooming industry currently stands at $6.5 Bn, and is poised to
touch $20 Bn by 2025. Further, as per TechSci Research, India men’s grooming products market
stood at $1.4 Bn in 2016 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 15%, in value terms, during
2017-2022, to reach $3.3 Bn by 2022.
Increase in disposable incomes, hectic lifestyles leading to early ageing, urbanisation, and adoption of
western culture are a few of the driving factors aiding India’s men’s grooming products market.
Other online players who are gradually making a mark in the men grooming products space are
Nykaa, Purplle, Ustaraa, Bombay Shaving Company, among others.
Although in a nascent stage, the men’s grooming segment offers an open door opportunity with India
soon touted to be a young nation.
John Spectre’s entry into India exclusively through Amazon India will certainly mark an aggressive
growth of the sector owing to the deep pockets and the reach of both the players. Here is the link to
