The city has its own Airport as Maharana Pratap Airport. Maharana Pratap Airport is linked to major cities by Air India, Air India Regional, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines.The city has the Railway Station as Udaipur Railway Station. There are numerous trains such as Adi Udz Express, Bdts Aii Udz Express, Mewar Express and Annanya Express.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF UDAIPUR-
Mewar dynasty ruled their kingdom with Chittorgarh as capital. Udai Singh II established a temporary residence and worked towards building Udaipur. In the final sacking of Chittorgarh in the year 1568 Mughal Emperor Akbar attacked and conquered Chittorgarh after a fierce battle. Udaipur became the capital of Mewar Kingdom. All Rajput dynasties and clans including the Sisodia Maharana, and later Maharanas of Guhilot, reasserted their independence and recaptured most of Mewar except for Chittorgarh. Mewar became a princely state of the British India in 1818 and Udaipur as the capital of the state. Post India’s independence in 1947, Mewar was emerged into the union of India and later on became a state of Rajasthan along with other princely states of Rajasthan. The royal family known as the Singh family continues to be the owners of City Palace of Udaipur. Sisodia Kings ruled the Mewar Kingdom from Udaipur. The British Empire took over Udaipur in the year 1889. The successors of the Maha Rana family are still living and patronage the Rajput traditions of Rajasthan.
TIPS-
- Reach Udaipur by morning, start the tour with Bagore Haveli and Palace of Udaipur together. Having a vintage lunch at Garden hotel.
- Visit Shilpgram is the hub of handicrafts.
- Visit Udaivillas and Kumbalgarh Fort.
- Visit Haldighati and having a delicious food in the city itself .
